Police are investigating shootings, killings and other serious cases across Texas, while several recent arrests and court decisions have moved older investigations forward.
Dallas-Fort Worth
Man shot four times while walking his dog in Dallas
Dallas police say a man was shot four times while walking his dog in the Pleasant Grove area. Officers were called to the 1900 block of North Prairie Creek Road at about 10:48 p.m. Police said the victim told investigators that a man he did not know approached him and asked whether he “wanted to die.” When the victim tried to run, the attacker allegedly opened fire. Investigators recovered 15 shell casings. Police later arrested 18-year-old David Gabriel Ramirez on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The victim survived.
Arrest made in killing of 20-year-old Aniya Edwards
Dallas police have arrested Terry Lockridge, 32, on charges of capital murder and aggravated robbery in the killing of 20-year-old Aniya Edwards. Police originally found Edwards after she had been shot while driving in the 8000 block of West Virginia Drive. According to an arrest affidavit, investigators later used license plate reader information and cellphone records to track a vehicle they say followed Edwards for more than 20 miles before the shooting. Court records allege that a passenger with Edwards was robbed before Edwards was shot as she tried to drive away. Dallas police say the investigation remains active.
Grand Prairie attorney accused of $1.45 million investment scheme
Federal prosecutors have charged Grand Prairie attorney David Thomas Gilchrist, 70, with wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and witness tampering. The Justice Department alleges that Gilchrist collected about $1.45 million from roughly 20 investors who believed their money would be used to buy property tax liens. Prosecutors say much of the money was instead mixed with other funds and used for personal expenses or payments to earlier investors. They also accuse Gilchrist of giving forged documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission and trying to influence potential witnesses. U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould called the alleged conduct an attack on investor trust. Gilchrist is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Houston Area
Harris County detention officer accused of firing 14 shots at women
A Harris County detention officer is facing two aggravated assault charges after Houston police accused him of firing at two women outside Uptown Lounge on Richmond Avenue. Court records reviewed by ABC13 say Jeremiah Jones, 28, allegedly retrieved a handgun from a vehicle and fired about 14 rounds as the women drove away. One woman told investigators she ducked inside the vehicle because she believed she could be killed. Police released images of the wanted shooter, and investigators say one of Jones’ supervisors at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office recognized him. Jones has been charged but has not been convicted.
20-year-old charged with manslaughter after fatal Houston crash
Houston police have charged Luz Villegas, 20, with manslaughter after a crash on East Orem Drive killed a 24-year-old woman. According to an official HPD report, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling at a high rate of speed before hitting a Honda Accord that was leaving a residential neighborhood. A rear passenger in the Honda died at the scene. Two other people were taken to a hospital. Police said investigators determined that Villegas was impaired and arrested the driver. The case is now before the 232nd Criminal District Court.
Texas Killing Fields case produces historic conviction
A Galveston County jury has sentenced James Dolphs Elmore Jr., 61, to 20 years in prison after finding him guilty of manslaughter in the 1984 death of Laura Miller. Miller was 16 when she disappeared, and her remains were later found in the area near League City that became known as the Texas Killing Fields. Prosecutors argued that Elmore prepared cocaine that was given to Miller and later helped move her body. His defense argued that Elmore made up parts of the story to obtain money from Miller’s father. The conviction is the first tied directly to one of the best-known Texas Killing Fields cases.
Austin Area
Man charged with murder in Timber Heights shooting
Austin police arrested 21-year-old Joitorian Bouye after the shooting death of Tyrell Pordia on Timber Heights Drive. According to APD, witnesses reported seeing a suspect flee after the shooting. Officers later found Bouye and arrested him without incident. APD said Bouye spoke with homicide detectives and admitted shooting Pordia. He was charged with first-degree murder. The case is being investigated as Austin’s 38th homicide of 2026. A statement made to police does not remove a defendant’s right to contest the charge in court.
Police search for suspect after man found dead in crashed vehicle
Austin police are also investigating a separate homicide near Briar Hill Drive and Woodland Avenue. Officers responding to a report of a shooting or stabbing found a vehicle that had crashed into a fence. An adult man inside had suffered serious trauma and was pronounced dead. Witnesses told police they saw a young man running from the area shortly before officers arrived. Homicide detectives are reviewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses. No arrest had been announced in the latest APD update.
Woman arrested after police report finding thousands of pieces of stolen mail
Austin police say a fraud investigation led them to thousands of pieces of stolen mail and hundreds of suspected stolen bank cards. APD arrested Elizabeth Rozo, 42, after officers located her vehicle near Tech Ridge Boulevard. Police said a search of the vehicle and an apartment uncovered about 400 suspected stolen bank cards, nearly 300 gift cards and stolen postal keys. Investigators also reported finding suspected methamphetamine, stolen checks and fraudulent identification documents. Rozo was booked on several charges, and APD said additional charges could follow as investigators determine how many people may have been affected.
San Antonio Area
Two men detained after fatal West Side stabbing
San Antonio police are investigating the death of a 33-year-old man who was found with apparent stab wounds in the 1000 block of San Fernando Street. Police said the man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Witness information led officers to believe people connected to the incident were inside a nearby location, and the SAPD SWAT team was called to assist. Several people were detained for questioning. Police said two men, ages 48 and 35, were taken into custody as investigators worked to determine what happened.
18-year-old critically injured in police shooting
San Antonio police are also investigating an officer-involved shooting on the West Side. Acting Police Chief Jesse Salame said members of the Street Crimes Unit attempted to stop a vehicle near South San Gabriel Avenue and Buena Vista Street. According to Salame’s preliminary account, an 18-year-old passenger got out and struggled with an officer before reaching toward a gun. The officer fired several times. Police said a firearm was recovered near the injured teenager, who was hospitalized in critical condition. The officer was placed on administrative duty while SAPD’s shooting team and Internal Affairs investigate. The police account is preliminary, and the investigation will determine whether the shooting followed department policy and the law.
Four arrested in online child solicitation operation
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests of four men following an undercover operation aimed at people allegedly trying to meet minors for sex. Investigators posed online as 14-year-old girls, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar. The operation was conducted with assistance from the U.S. Secret Service and also served as training for investigators handling online exploitation cases. The four defendants face charges of online solicitation of a minor. Salazar urged parents to speak with children about people they meet online. All four defendants are presumed innocent unless convicted.
Beaumont Area
Man charged with murder after deadly apartment assault
Beaumont police arrested 28-year-old Alejandro Richard after a fatal assault at Sunlight Manor Apartments. Officers responding to a disturbance on South Eighth Street allegedly found Richard attacking 65-year-old Patrick James inside an apartment. James was taken to a hospital but later died. Beaumont police spokesperson Chancellor Van Houten said investigators believe the men knew each other and that the attack did not appear to be random. Richard was charged with murder and booked into the Jefferson County jail.
Arrest made after Magnolia Street shooting
In another Beaumont case, police arrested 36-year-old Ariel McKinney after a shooting in the 1400 block of Magnolia Street. Police said officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and had him taken to a hospital. McKinney was arrested on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. The case remains subject to court proceedings, and the charge has not been proven.
Corpus Christi Area
Two men charged with murder in Brooks Drive shooting
Corpus Christi police have arrested two men in the shooting death of 22-year-old Nickolas Lara. Officers were called to the 300 block of Brooks Drive and found Lara suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died. CCPD detectives obtained murder warrants for Julian Hinojosa, 24, and Ricardo Ramirez, 23. Both were later arrested with help from other law enforcement units. Police said the people involved knew each other and described the shooting as an isolated incident.
Man arrested after Everhart Road shooting
Corpus Christi police also arrested Joshua Sanchez-Bruce, 34, following a shooting in the 6600 block of Everhart Road. Witnesses told police two men were involved in an argument before one pulled a gun and shot the other. The injured man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Officers later arrested Sanchez-Bruce at an apartment and recovered a firearm, according to CCPD. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of a court order.
